"Sun-Dried Tears"
2025
Glazed stoneware
11.5 x 7 x 10 in.
Sun-dried Tears reflects on the resilience that emerges from histories marked by hardship. Drawing from the visual language of African masks, the sculpture explores identity as something shaped by both suffering and survival. The hand-formed chains and adornments suggest burdens carried across generations, while the face remains steady, bearing witness to the enduring strength found in remembrance.
Constructed from reclaimed clay, wild clay gathered from family land, and multiple clay bodies, the work combines molded, wheel-thrown, and hand-built elements into a single sculptural form. The varied surfaces and materials speak to the layered nature of memory, where personal histories and collective experience become inseparable.
